Incredible Homemade Applesauce

I grew up in the Midwest where apples were plentiful! I remember, back in the good old days, paying $2.00 a bushel to "top" the apple trees (that means picking the apples in the top of the tree). While the price of apples has certainly gone up, my love for a tart, crunchy apple with a little salt, fresh squeezed apple cider, homemade apple pie, and last but not least, Incredible Applesauce, has not diminished!

I'd known for a long time that using a store bought antiperspirant was a bad decision. Every time I'd put it on there was the nagging thought about the aluminum I was putting in my body. Did I want cancer or Alzheimer's disease? No! But after trying Tom's chrysanthemum scented deodorant, which didn't work and smelled horrid, I went back to my Dove unscented.

We were given some beautiful, fresh-picked dates, so I began perusing the internet looking for a date bar recipe. I found a couple recipes that looked promising but this recipe for homemade granola bars caught my eye. It was by Ina Garten, The Barefoot Contessa, had rave reviews and used dates! What more could I ask for?
